To Our Clients, Consultants and Friends:

After eighteen years as a principal with Cherry Huffman Architects, Dan Huffman, AIA, will be retiring on September 1. In retirement, Dan will begin a small practice from home with a focus on select residential, governmental and recreational projects.

Sharon Crawford, IIDA, LEED AP, Hal Bowen, AIA LEED AP and I will continue to lead Cherry Huffman Architects. Our firm has a total staff of seventeen including seven registered architects, four registered interior designers and four intern architects (with twelve LEED Accredited Professionals in our ranks).

Cherry Huffman is hard at work maintaining the level of service and quality that you have come to know. We are working together to enhance and strengthen our communities and are dedicated to that aim.

We appreciate the many years of support and collaboration and look forward to many more. If we can be of any assistance, please let me know. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Louis W. Cherry, FAIA, LEED AP
Principal

AIA North Carolina: 2009 Firm of the Year

In August 2009, Cherry Huffman Architects was awarded Firm of the Year by the American Institute of Architects North Carolina Chapter. The award is presented to a North Carolina architectural firm that has an established presence in the state and has consistently produced quality architecture with a verifiable level of client satisfaction for a period of at least ten years.

Our joy comes not only from the beauty, elegance, and functionality of the space but more importantly from the feeling that we have been understood and described to the world. Your design has provided UUFR [Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh] an important introduction to the community and inspired us to imagine bigger possibilities. Without that inspiration the willingness to build might never have happened.
– Gayle Fitzgerald
   Co-Leader of UUFR Building Council

Small Things Add Up

We have a great car pool with a highly coveted play-list.

We use corn based cutlery instead of plastic.

We crowd our bikes into the storage room in the summer.

We compost and recycle everything we can.

We love supporting the Moore Square Grower’s market.

We completed a planting project at the North Carolina Zoo in the African Plains habitat to help the Zoo conserve water.

We spent a day reclaiming wood from an old homestead in Garner for use in the new White Deer Park Nature Center.

We helped plan and execute SparkCon to support and showcase the local creative community.

We believe that small things really add up and we look forward to doing more in 2009.

CHA News 2008

In February 2008, Louis Cherry was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. Fellowship is conferred on architects with at least 10 years of membership in the AIA who have made significant contributions in the following areas: the aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession; the standards of architectural education, training, and practice; the building industry through leadership in the AIA and other professional organizations; advancement of living standards of people through an improved environment; and to society through significant public service.

"Louis Cherry’s commitment to environmentally sustainable design began in the late 1970’s, when he was building solar houses. That commitment is continually manifested in award winning designs for schools, libraries and churches that look to site, the environment and aesthetics to enhance and further their communities."

Cherry Huffman Architects was founded to pursue commissions that contribute meaningfully to community. The honor of Louis’ Fellowship is shared with our friends, clients and consultants as we work together to enhance and further our communities.
